Owlet in a Tree Hollow Afghan Chart

Jennifer has been patiently waiting for me to make a happy owl pattern. So here is a cute little owlet to brighten your day!

This afghan is 135 stitches across and 157 rows high. With an I hook and worsted weight yarn I measured my gauge at 4 stitches and 4 rows per inch, so this afghan would be approximately 33 3/4" x 39 1/4" when finished, about lapghan size.  You could make it larger by adding a border in a contrasting color.

I crochet, but many knitters have used my charts and they say they turn out well.

I realize there's no way you could crochet this afghan from this tiny picture, so if you want the chart email me at crochetparfaitpg@yahoo.com.  Let me know what format you want it in.  (Excel--editable .xlsx, Adobe .pdf or picture .png,  I recommend the .xlsx or .png files because the pdf splits it up into several pages.)

I've found some tutorials for different methods of doing Tapestry Crochet.  If you are really talented (and somewhat ambidextrous) you can switch the hook to your left hand when you get to the end of the row and then crochet back the way you came like Carol Ventura does.  I think this tutorial by Interweave is a little easier if you want to keep all of the design facing the same direction. This  video tutorial by Red Heart Yarn has you turn the afghan as you crochet, it's easier but the design is not as true.

If you are new to crochet charts check out my Globe Pillow Crochet Along, it has a tutorial on how to read a chart.  If you would rather cross stitch the details of the chart, I would crochet the major areas and then you can have a look at my Day of the Dead Banner pattern for a tutorial on how to cross stitch on single crochet for the finer details.

For other tips on following a crochet chart check out my Harley Davidson Afghan post.

Happy Hooking!

Wooo Hooo, Almost Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've finally stitched the last cross stitch on this bad boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to do the black, orange and white yarn in single crochet and then cross stitch the red and yellow yarn over the top.  It gives the flame a bit of a 3D effect.

Now I just have to weave in all these loose ends!  But once I've finished the back should look fairly tidy.

If you would like to make this afghan, you can find the post on it here.

Ray Gun ala Howie Woo

Howie Woo

Crocheted Creations Artwork  Is Wooly Good
I found Howie Woo a while back in this article by Newslite.  Howie is a crochet artist who makes some of the craziest and most fun crochet designs I have ever seen! Unfortunately, Howie doesn't make patterns.

I love his Ray Gun and I thought it would a fun project for Halloween.  Howie made it easy for me by naming all the parts of the gun and posting some really great pictures.  So I hope you like the pattern and please go by and check out Howie's work, IT'S AMAZING!!!
