Breast Cancer Awareness Pillow/Breastplate

Brooke at Talking Trash & Wasting Time drew this great ironic drawing when she had a bit of a cancer scare.  I asked her if I could use it to design a 3D pillow/breastplate.  I thought this would make a great accessory for anyone running in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure.  If you don't need a breastplate you could turn it into a pillow.

Make 2 for pillow, 1 for breastplate

Ch 58,
Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across, turn.
Row 2 to 22: Ch 3 (counts as first dc) dc in next dc and each across and in the turning ch, turn.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Roses and Leaves

For the Roses and leaves I used this pattern from Crochet Spot.  Make 5 leaves according to the pattern.
For the smaller roses I chained 30 and then followed the Crochet Spot pattern for the medium sized rose and chained 21 and then followed the pattern for the rose bud.  I also put a sl st in the last dc on Row 3 for each rose.

After rolling up the rose, sew the bottom together to hold it in place.

Place the breasts on the backing between the 4th and 19th rows.

Stuff the breasts and sew them onto the background.

Sew on the ribbons, the roses and the leaves. To make the pillow just sew the two pink baking pieces together on 3 sides, stuff and then sew up fourth side.

To make the breastplate sew wide ribbon (5/8" to 1" wide) onto breastplate so that you can tie it around your neck and in two places on your back.
