Assembly

On the one of the open ends of the pumpkin shell, pin the fabric to overlap about 1/2 inch over and over until the hole is about 1-1/2 to 2 inches in diameter.

Sew the pleats together and about 1 inch deep.

Sew up the other end of the shell the same way.

Sew the stem onto one side of the shell, covering the hole.

Using the red yarn and straight stitches, stitch on the gums of teeth, catching the loose chains at the top of the mouth to anchor them.

Back stitch a line along the bottom edge of the mouth.

Make close stitches all along bottom edge of mouth to form bottom lip.

Back stitch down the line of stitching at the points of the gums to form the teeth.

Loosely stuff the pumpkin shell, just enough so it has a rounded shape, but the shell is still loose enough to shape.

Sew on the mouth.

Stitch the over the outside ring of stitches with black yarn.

Stitch over the inside with red yarn.

Make creases in the pumpkin shell by tacking loose parts of the shell together.

Sew the eyes on and then form brow ridges by tacking the pumpkin shell down over the eyes.

Use a long piece of yarn threaded with the tapestry needle, push through the pumpkin shell from front to back to squeeze the pumpkin together at the center, sew back and forth several times.

Since there is a pipe cleaner in the stem, you can bend the stem any way you like.

Continue tacking down the shell moving toward the back of the shell, making creases that give the pumpkin a menacing look.

Continue sewing the back hole together by folding and tacking it together to close the hole.

Happy Hooking!
