Dc3tog

dc3tog (double crochet 3 stitches together)

Yarn over (YO) hook, insert hook in stitch (st), pull up a loop (lp), 3 lps on hook.  YO hook, pull through 2 lps.  YO hook insert in next st, pull up a lp, 4 lps on hook.  YO, pull through 2 lps, 3 lps on hook.  YO, insert hook in next st.  YO, pull up a lp, 5 lps on hook.  YO, draw through 2 lps, 4 lps left on hook. YO draw through all 4 lps left on hook.

(see photos for dc2tog for beginning)

last 4 loops left on hook, draw yarn through all loops

Here's a hint, for the last time you pull the yarn through on a dc together st, there will be one more lp than sts you are bringing together.

  1. Thank you! The Lion Brand pattern that I'm using does a very poor job at describing how to do this stitch.

  2. Do you count that as 1 stitch or 3 stitches?

    1. It may mean that you alternate dc3tog and dc5tog. Without seeing the whole pattern it's hard to know for sure. I have a tutorial for dc5tog in the crochet special stitches on the to the left of this post.

  5. in your falling leaves ripple cowl, what does it mean to double 3 crochet stitches together over cluster

    1. Since the cluster is joined together at the top, it counts as one stitch. The double 3 crochet together is done in a cluster then a double crochet stitch and then another cluster. If you look at the beginning of Row 3 on the diagram that I drew, it's easier to see it.

    2. I just looked at the diagram again and I realized that it's a chain stitch in between the clusters, not a double crochet stitch. Sorry for the confusion.
