Mopping Shoes




I like the crocheted Swiffer type mop heads and I do use those sometimes, but it can be hard on my back.  But if I put them on my feet, then I can scrub and skate to my hearts content!

Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton yarn such as Lily's sugar n'cream
  • H Crochet Hook (5 mm)
  • Piece of sturdy, bendable plastic (I used the cover of an old spiral notebook)
  • X-acto Knife or scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations
ch(s)--chain(s)                            sc(s)--single crochet(s)
BOBBLE--bobble stitch             sc2tog--single crochet 2 stitches together


Bobble Sole
Make 2

Ch 15.
Row 1: Insert in 2nd ch from hook and do 14 scs

Row 2: ch 1, sc in same st, and in next sc, *BOBBLE in next st, sc in next 2 scs* 4 times, ch 1, turn. (14 sts)

Row 3: Sc in same st and each st across row, ch 1, turn. (14 scs)

Row 4: Sc in same st, sc in next st, *BOBBLE in next st, sc in next 2 scs* 4, ch 1, turn. (14 sts)

Repeat Rows 3 and 4  15 times. Repeat Row 3, fasten off leaving a tail for weaving in.




Insole
Make 2

Ch 15.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end ch 1, turn. (14 scs)
Row 2 to 41: Sc in same st and each st to end, ch 1, turn. (14 scs)
Row 42: Sc in same st and each st to end, fasten off leaving a long tail for weaving in. (14scs)




Upper
Make 2

Ch 22.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, ch 1, turn. (21 scs)
Row 2-3: Sc in same st and in each st to end, ch 1, turn. (21 scs)
Row 4: Sc in 1st 10 scs, do 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end, ch 1, turn. (22 scs)
Row 5: Sc in 1st 11 scs, do 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end, ch 1, turn. (23 scs)
Row 6: Sc in 1st 12 scs, do 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end, ch 1, turn. (24 scs)
Row 7: Sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn. (24 scs)
Row 8: Sc in 1st 12 scs, do 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end, ch 1, turn. (25 scs)
Row 9: Sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn. (25 scs)
Row 10: Sc in 1st 13 scs, do 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end, ch 1, turn. (26 scs)
Row 11: Sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn. (26 scs)
Row 12: Sc in 1st 13 scs, do 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end, ch 1, turn. (27 scs)
Row 13: Sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn. (27 scs)

Row 23: Attach yarn in opposite side of upper,



ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in next 6 scs, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (8 scs)

Row 24: Sc2tog, sc in last 6 scs, ch 1, turn. (7 scs)
Row 25: Sc in 1st 5 scs, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (6 scs)
Row 26: Sc2tog, sc in last 4 scs, ch 1, turn. (5 scs)
Row 27: Sc in 1st 3 scs, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (4 scs)
Row 28: Sc2tog, sc in last 2 scs, ch 1, turn. (3 scs)
Row 29: Sc in 1st sc, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (2 scs)
Row 30: Sc2tog, fasten off leaving a tail for weaving in. (1 sc)



Assembly

Mark a piece of strong, flexible plastic to the size of the Insole.



Cut the pieces.

Whip stitch the Bobble Sole to the Insole on 3 sides.

Insert one of the plastic pieces,

Continue whip stitching the soles together to enclose the plastic piece.

Estimate where to put the Upper and pin it in place.


Whip stitch upper to soles.

  1. What a great idea and great time saver. Did I miss it, is there a way to remove the plastic so you can toss them in the washer when they get dirty? Thanks for sharing the instructions.

    1. I sewed the plastic all the way in, you can still throw them in the washer, just air dry them. If you want to be able to remove the plastic, don't sew up the back end of the sole.
