Cross Stitched Harley Davidson Afghan

Kathy G just sent me this picture of her completely cross stitched Harley Davidson Afghan. She first made the black background in crochet and then cross stitched the design on top. Looks fantastic!

Little Girl Hats

Mary A asked me to make a matching hat to go with the Little Girl Purses, so here you go Mary. This is a Tam type hat and there instructions for adjusting the size.

Materials

Red Heart Shimmer Yarn, hot pink and purple
Left over yarn in contrasting colors
G Hook
Tapestry Needle

Gauge
5 scs and 5 rows per inch.

Abbreviations

Starting with Pink Yarn, form a Magic Circle.

Michele S's Skull Nintendo DS Case

Michele S used my skull chart from the Skull iPad case to make a case for her nephew's Nintendo DS. She did this by first crocheting a few black rows and putting a button hole in it. (If you don't know how to make a button hole check out this post.) Then she crocheted the Skull by using the chart and crocheting it from the top down and then continued to crochet in black to make the piece long enough to fold up a pocket so she could roll the DS into the case. Then she sewed on a red button.

Christmas Presents, Part III

I made these shrugs using a pattern from Debbie Stoller's wonderful book, The Happy Hooker. The pattern is "Short 'n Sweet" by Angela "Le Vonne" Best. I know, I know, this pattern isn't free, but I highly recommend this book. It's a great book to learn crochet and it has lots of cute and cool, up-to-date patterns. If you can't afford to buy the book or you only want this one pattern, you could try checking it out from your local library.

I used Caron Simply Soft yarn instead of the recommended yarn and was able to make both of these shrugs (one size small and the other medium) with under 3 skeins of yarn. The yarn I used for the purple edging was some I had on hand (same for the flowers). The pattern is a little tricky, but once you get the hang of it, it goes along pretty smoothly. There is a diagram of the stitch pattern as well, which I find very handy, because I'm a very visual person. For the flowers I used two patterns from Lion Brand's Stitchfinder. For the sweater above I used the Narcisssus. Unfortunately this pattern isn't on the website anymore, but this pattern by Crochet Geek is similar. I then added an extra layer of petals on the back.

For this shrug I used the Poinsettia pattern. I decided to let the petals curl up and I used three different colors of yarn.

Christmas Presents, Part II

This is another easy scarf that looks great. I got this pattern from Made by K. K uses her own abbreviations in the pattern, so be sure to read the beginning part so you know what she's talking about. I used black instead of gray and alternated colors in the rounds, making 3 squares of each combination. I also single crocheted the squares together with pink yarn. I made the bow using DK weight yarn and an E hook. I chained 18, then slip stitched into the first chain and then single crocheted 4 rows. Then I wound yarn around the middle of the bow. To do the whiskers I knotted one end of the yarn, pulled it through and then knotted it on the other side and then cut the ends to the right size.

Christmas Presents, Part I

I've been busy making Christmas presents and right now I'm using other people's patterns. So I'll post pictures of what I'm making and links to the patterns.

This is the easiest scarf (that looks difficult) that you will ever make, because the yarn does the work for you. It's all done in single crochet and there are only 4 stitches per row. To make a nice long one like this, use 2 skeins of either Sashay or Starbella yarn. Also, be sure to use a large hook, it makes it a lot easier to see the stitches. I used an L Hook. The technique for using ruffle yarn is a little different, so check out this Sashay tutorial from Red Heart Yarn, before you start. To keep the ends from unraveling and to make them look a little neater, I just used a needle and matching thread to sew up the ends. It won't show because the ruffle covers it up.
