How to Cross Stitch on Single Crochet
Leave a tail of yarn sticking out the back of the crochet piece, just like you would when adding a new yarn color, then weave it in later.
Pull the yarn through the front of the crochet piece, then insert the needle in the next stitch
Then pull up yarn
You are making diagonal stitches, continue making the diagonal stitches for the number of stitches you need
When you have the right number of stitches, then you start to sew back over them to complete the cross
Do the next row of stitches the same way
